I have used Brother machines for several years in our office. They have performed as well as or better than HP. This machine is no exception. I do recommend when installing the software, disable your virus program and firewall first to prevent any glitches.
I have read reviews of other Brother printers, etc. about the high cost of replacement parts such as fusers, etc. My feeling is that most office machines under $500 are disposables. The primary cost with any such machine is the toner, drum, etc. Brother consistently has the best value per page for these items. If a machine lasts for 3 years, I feel justified in tossing it if it fails. With labor costs for repairing at $80+ per hour, it just doesn't make sense to attempt repair.

Overall: This is a good multifunction FAX machine.
Background: About June 2005, our previous FAX machine, a Brother MFC-6550, died after 8.5 years of faithful service. We wanted to purchase a similar laser multifunction FAX machine, but at a price much less than the MFC-6550.
Result: We did a web search of reviews for various laser-based multifunction FAX machines and liked the features of the Brother MFC-8220. After searching many possible sellers, we bought a remanufactured MFC-8220 from Amazon.com because of the attractive base price ($180 before shipping) and the one-year warranty.
Comments: We are impressed with the laser printing speed (~ 20 PPM) and quality (sharp images). Please note that printing quality is a little better than copying quality because the scanner resolution is less than 600 x 600 dpi. Also, compared to our previous machine, this Brother MFC has much more standard memory (32 MB vs. 2 MB) and can print Asian fonts (e.g.,...Read more

The multifunction center worked correctly for exactly one week. Then it developed a loud grinding sound. So much for buying remanufactured equipment. Spend a little more and buy something new.
